Homemade Memory Book

Homemade Memory Book

It's possible to create a cheap homemade memory book, rather than spending a lot of money on fancy folders or albums.

Probably the most important things you can purchase would be a cheap ream of A4 paper, a two ring hole-punch, and a two ring A4 folder. (Don't buy a 4 hole binder! A 4 hole punch is very expensive!).

Armed with these three items, you can very quickly, cheaply, and easily create a homemade memory book.

What else may you need?

Some glue. To stick things onto the A4 sheets.

A box file. To keep things that won't fit onto an A4 sheet.

That's about it!

When the time comes that you've got too much to fit into one file, simply buy another one. You could even use different colours for different aspects of your life that you want to remember.

The great advantages of using this type of folder, is that they are always the same size and always have the same type of fastening.

We frequently hear from people who have bought more expensive album type folders who, when they want to buy another one, can't find the same make, or can't find one the same size, or can't find one that uses a two hole punch, only a four (or worse a six) hole punch.

At that stage, they do one of two things. They either transfer everything to an A4 folder, or they persevere with something similar (but not identical) to what they've already got. If they do the latter, they end up with a bookcase full of different shaped and sized albums.

So plan ahead. Plan simply. Keep it cheap!

You should add a short but meaningful title to the spine of each folder (e.g. 2010, or 'wedding')

Add a larger title page as the first page inside the folder, and make the next page into an index. You may know where everything is now, but trust me, once you've got a few folders to look at, you'll be thankful that you've included an index.

A final advantage of an A4 folder is that there are readily available index pages, coloured dividers, numerical and alphabetical dividers, and the like. All of which are easy to come by, cheap to buy, and help to sort out your pages.

Using an loose leaf binder is

Using an loose leaf binder is much better than buying a book with a fixed spine. It means you can add extra pages in between the pages you've already got. You can't do that if you've got a book you can't add pages too.
